Hello,

I am a 24 year old male, 6'1, 190 lbs. I've been going to the gym 3-5 days a week for about 5 months to try to get in shape.

I'm not too overweight for my height, but I'm carrying more weight than I'd like in my mid-section (gut, chest)

Anyway, I take a Men's one-a-day every day but I'd like to add more vitamins or supplements to my diet. I want to be careful about GAINING any more weight (some pills add water weight) but a good dose of protein or something would be nice.

Problem is, there are so many choices out there! I'd love to get some suggestions from people who know what they're talking about! What are the best vitamins for someone in my situation to take? Drinks/shakes? Power bars? Help!!

Calcium may be helpful. It's marketed toward women, but the truth is that most people have calcium deficiencies. I would see how much calcium is in your men's vitamins; usually, they don't contain a lot of calcium compared to women's vitamins. People who have enough calcium essentially "poop out" the fat that they consume. You can tell if you're getting enough calcium by whether or not your stool floats in the toilet. If it floats, it means that it is composed of fat. Fiber is also important and helpful in weight loss (or maintenance).

I would be careful about drinks and powerbar-type things, because although they have protein, they are also loaded with sugar or other sweeteners (for taste) and consequently, extra calories. If you have a store like a GNC nearby (vitamin store), try asking someone who works there.
