Bee Pollen Nutrition Information – Looking At GM Issues (October 4, 2011 )

Posted by: admin | Category: vitamins and supplements | Comments (0)

Puritan's Pride Logo

I have just finished reading a book by Jeffrey M. Smith called the Seeds of Deception in which he outlines the health risks from GM crops. You may think this is rather far fetched in an article about bee pollen nutrition information but it is most relevant, I can assure you.

First, keep in mind, we all have different circumstances, lifestyles, and ailments so each of us may have different needs. So, it is difficult to pick out one single supplement that everyone should take. But what if we were forced to take a single supplement, aside from our basic multivitamin, that offers the most proven benefits for staying healthy? I often ask myself this, especially when I look into my medicine cabinet and see it crammed with over 10 bottles of various supplements.

On the other side are those who argue that if the GM scenario is properly controlled then these threats are non existent.

The fact is that the bee population is subject to all sorts of risks as they journey from flower to flower or from tree to tree. The risks they will encounter may be any one or several of the following:-

• GM microbes
• industrial pollutants
• insecticides
• pesticides
• radiation
• parasitic mites

The latter are responsible for much of the decimation of the bee population now known as CCD (Colony Collapse Disorder). But many others on the above list could also be responsible or at least be co-factors.

This list is impressive and will only grow over time as more and more studies into the benefits of Omega-3 are being funded, some by large pharmaceutical companies.

The best sources for Omega-3 fatty acids includes fish oil, flax seed oil, nut oil, canola oil and soybean oil. For most people it is most convenient to supplement with either fish oil or flax seed oil, which are readily available at a reasonable cost. There is also a high quality prescription fish oil named Lovaza which meets the highest standards of formulation and manufacturing and has been proven through clinical trials.

Once you have established this fact, this is just another guarantee that the purity and quality of the ingredients are second to none. We will never have to worry about the bee pollen nutritional analysis before we actually buy the product.

Is Fish Oil Good for You? (September 18, 2011 )

Posted by: admin | Category: vitamins and supplements | Comments (0)

Puritan's Pride Logo

Is fish oil good for you? If sales of fish oil supplements are anything to go by then there’s little doubt that fish oil is good for you. It is now estimated that sales of products that include fish oil, for their Omega3 essential fatty acids, are in the billions of dollars per annum.

But that doesn’t mean that fish oil is good for you. It might just be well marketed.

So let’s examine the question. Is fish oil good for you or not?

There’s no doubt that there are significant benefits to your heart health from increasing your intake of the Omega 3 essential fatty acids most commonly found in the oil of fish. There are ample scientific studies establishing the heart health benefits of upping your intake of the Omega 3 fatty acids, and the evidence supporting the cardiovascular benefits of eating more Omega3 fats is so solid that the American Heart Association now tells us that we all eat a minimum amount of fish.

And there is also good evidence, though not as strong as the evidence in support of the cardiovascular benefits, that increasing our intake of the Omega3 fats can also benefit a wide range of other areas of our health.

For instance the most important of the Omega3 fats, DHA, makes up a large part of the fat in our brains, and for this reason it is considered that an adequate supply of DHA through pregnancy and the early years of childhood is very important to the proper development of the brain and cognitive functions.

And there is also emerging evidence that plenty of Omega3 fats in the early years can also have a positive effect on conditions such as ADD and ADHD, and also depression in adults.

Not only that but DHA also makes up a significant percentage of the retina of your eye, and evidence is showing that more Omega3 fats can help improve childhood vision and reduce the incidence of macular degeneration in the elderly. Macular degeneration is the leading cause of blindness in older people.

And there is a wide range of other health conditions which have been shown in studies to benefit or possibly benefit from increasing your intake of the Omega 3 fatty acids found in fish oil.

But it’s not all good news. Whilst fish oil might be good for you in some cases it isn’t in all. A recent study has found that taking fish oil supplements is not good for you if you’re undergoing chemotherapy for cancer. The study found that taking fish oil supplements reduce the effectiveness of the chemotherapy. Of course this is only one study and others are needed in support of the conclusion.

But in answer to our original question, is fish oil good for you, the overwhelming answer is yes. In some cases the evidence is a little thin, in others, such as for people undergoing chemotherapy, the evidence is emerging that increasing your intake of fish oil might not be good for you, but in the overwhelming majority of cases there is no doubt that more fish oil in your diet is good for your health.

What Is The Dirty Secret Behind Omega 3 Capsules? (August 10, 2011 )

Posted by: admin | Category: vitamins and supplements | Comments (0)

Puritan's Pride Logo

Fish oil capsules, or what are otherwise known as Omega3 capsules, are good for you. Right?

Not necessarily.

That’s not to say that the Omega 3 fatty acids found in fish oil capsules aren’t good for you.

In fact there is ample evidence from hundreds of different studies that the Omega3 fatty acids are essential to good health in a number of different areas.

Amongst other things a high supply of the Omega3 fats can prevent you dying from heart attack, and that has to be as good as it gets. And it’s not just heart health, there’s a range of other areas of your health that may also benefit from an increased intake of the Omega 3 fats.

And jfor this reason many people are taking fishoil capsules believing that they are doing them good. And the Omega 3 fatty acids found in the fish oil capsules are.

But that doesn’t mean that the fishoil capsules themselves are all that good.

Huh? Surely if Omega3 fats are good for you, and Omega3 fats are found in fishoil capsules, then fish oil capsules have to be good for you?

Not necessarily.

You see it is now commonly known that fish are contaminated with a range of industrial toxins including Mercury and PCBs. For that reason the government warns us not to eat too much fish.

And some fish oil capsules have been found to contain PCBs, and in fact there is now a lawsuit about just this.

In 2010 a lawsuit was launched against a range of manufacturers of Omega3 supplements alleging that they have failed to warn consumers of the risks of toxins found in their capsules as required by proposition 65 in California.

This is a little scary. Obviously it pays you to take a little time when choosing your fish oil supplements.

The good news is that there are excellent, high quality and completely clean Omega 3 capsules available. Knowing how to choose them is what counts.

Taking Fish Oil And The Benefits Of DHA (August 10, 2011 )

Posted by: admin | Category: vitamins and supplements | Comments (0)

Puritan's Pride Logo

Fish oil is a supplement that many folks are talking about recently. Generally, it’s due to the fact the Standard American Diet has become so deficient in healthy omega 3 essential fatty acids, which fish oil is very plentiful in. One of the omega 3s is a compound known as DHA.

DHA plays a big part in our everyday health and wellbeing. Not only is DHA considered brain fuel that assists in boosting mental clarity and thought, it’s got a extensive range of other essential functions also. DHA is now being added into many pre-natal supplement vitamins due to current studies that have shown that DHA during pregnancy is vital to the healthy development of the baby, and can also have strong benefits to the mother. How does it do that?

Recenlty, DHA has been studied much in relation to how if affects depression. Persons suffering from depression also typically appear to show a lack of DHA in their diets. And since a lot of the body’s DHA is used up when pregnant for the development of the baby’s brain and central nervous network, this is believed to be one of the most important contributors to postpartum depression.

Not only has DHA shown some great results in fighting postpartum depression in new mothers, it’s also showing some strong results in battling other sorts of depression also. It makes sense that when a diet is lacking in foods that fuel the brain, your mood, attitude, and your outlook can all start to suffer.

Another great benefit of fish oil is that it does not have the same hazards associated with eating fish. Fish samples often show mercury contamination, and people are distrustful of eating fish that are raised in fish farms. But high quality fish oil is free from that sort of contamination, giving you all of the benefits while not having to deal with any of the complications.

Fish oil is considered one of the best supplements a person can take.DHA prenatal vitamins are becoming extremely popular, as are dopamine supplements which help boost mental clarity and brain function.

The best policy is to be cautious and research any ingredients you’re not familiar with. If there are any issues about a particular product or ingredient, you should be able to find lots of information on it online. The bottom line is to verify everything for yourself, and also keep in mind any issues you might have in relation to various sports supplements, such as any allergies or health conditions. There are a wide variety of products that contain many different ingredients, and you have to carefully consider your own needs. Different supplements are designed for different types of people and their varying objectives. Supplements with certain amino acids, for instance, can be good to complement weight lifting if you want to build muscle. It’s designation as a fatty acid has earned fish oil a reputation as a sports supplement in recent years.

Many people take fish oils simply to control cholesterol or blood pressure although they can be beneficial as a sports supplement too. Omega type fats can be essential to a good exercise program. Fish oils aren’t the only healthy fat supplement, flaxseed, pumpkinseed and coconut oils are also useful. You need to avoid fish oils from polluted areas, so try to verify this when considering their usage. You can improve your athletic performance as well as your heart health with these supplements. Sports supplements, then, can be useful for many purposes, but you have to look at them carefully to find the ones that are in line with your objectives. You can spend many hours just browsing all the different products being sold, but the above tips can help you identify the best ones for your purpose. Keep in mind that sports supplements are just that, supplements, and can’t replace a healthy diet and regular exercise.
