Krill Oil – Better Than Fish Oil? (October 31, 2009 )

Posted by: admin | Category: vitamins and supplements | Comments (0)

Not many nutritional supplements presently available are as beneficial or as versatile as Neptune krill oil. It lowers LDL (low-density lipoprotein), the so-called “bad” cholesterol while also increasing levels of HDL (high-density lipoprotein), the “good” kind of cholesterol which, of course, makes it very useful for treating cholesterol problems. Research has also verified that krill oil can actually decrease blood glucose levels, which helps with getting diabetes under control.

Important for you sun worshipers out there, the antioxidants contained in krill oil may help protect your skin from ultraviolet light and the accompanying sun damage. There are a lot of additional problems improved by supplementing with krill oil including arthritis, muscle soreness, joint pain, and PMS. Essential organs including the liver, brain, and heart also gain from Neptune krill oil supplementation.

For consumers, one of the main benefits of supplementing with krill oil is that they no longer experience any odd aftertaste or “fish burps” as they often do when taking fish oil. You can thank krill oil’s phospholipid structure for that. It accelerates absorption which gets around the nastiness.

Fish oil just can’t compete with the advantages offered by krill oil. Digestion of krill oil is a lot easier and faster due to the double chain phospholipid structure. It also contains higher amounts of EPA, DHA (both of which are omega 3 fatty acids) and astaxanthin, a strong antioxidant. Krill oil’s antioxidant levels are so high that it is actually 48 times as powerful as fish oil. Due to it’s high antioxidant levels, krill oil has a much longer shelf life and is not as affected by temperature changes. Unlike fish oil, krill oil is free of heavy metals and additional contaminants which is probably due to krill residing at the bottom of the food chain.

Individuals with shrimp allergies should probably take care when using krill oil. During testing by Neptune Technologies, it should be mentioned that no known allergens were found. It is nevertheless something to be considered.

Given that there are so many benefits, and no side effects apart from possible allergies, it is difficult to find a reason not to try it.
