Could multi-vitamins be the key to women living longer?
A new study suggests multi-vitamins could help a woman prolong her life simply because they can prevent parts of a woman’s DNA from shortening.
More than five-hundred women participated in the National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences study.
Researchers asked them about their use of vitamin supplements over a twelve-year span.
They found those who took multi-vitamins had longer strands of DNA called telomeres in their white blood cells.
Because telomeres shorten slightly when cells divide, researchers think preventing this shortening could protect new cells, which would in turn reduce the effects of aging.
However, they do admit that it’s not clear whether the vitamins preserved telomere length or they actually lengthened life.
The findings appear in the June issue of the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition.

It is important that your body releases toxins every other month to keep your system fresh and on track. Even while on a regular and healthy diet, it is important for your body to be released of the toxins that have built up in your body due to both internal and external factors. Internal factors are items you have ingested including foods, beverages and alcohol, medicines and herbs, smoking and any other factors. External factors include air pollution, various fumes, smoke and lead.
Eating antioxidents on a daily basis can help couteract the effects of these toxins on your body. Some examples of antioxident-rich foods include blueberries, spinich, tomatoes, soy and whole grains. Many fruits also are rich in antioxidents, including melon, strawberries, mango, and red grapes.
It’s important to also note which foods can contain toxins that can build up in your body. These include potatoes, honey (depending on what the bee ate), zucchini and fruit seeds. You’ll want to either eliminate some of these foods or be sure to take antioxident-rich foods at the same time to counteract the effects of the natural toxins which is a form of a detox in itself.
During a stricter version of detox diets, you’ll want to stick to certain foods for two days in a row. Make sure these foods include green vegetables (excluding zucchini), lean white meats such as chicken and turkey, tuna and other low-mercury fish, eggs, and citrus fruits such as oranges, grapefruit and pineapple. Melon can be used as a subsitute for citrus fruits. Be sure to avoid sugar and marinades during these two days. You can include olive oil and lemon juice as a condiment or used for cooking purposes. Limit your salt intake to one teaspoon per day and drinking plenty of water during the detox.

Stress can come from many things in life and sometimes from a lot of things at once. Stress hits everyone on a daily basis, and most of us can deal with it, but long term stress is another story. This is stress that is beyond someone’s control, like long term financial problems or a family crisis. This kind of stress can wear a person down both physically and mentally, and over time can take its toll.
Although everyone experiences stress, not everyone handles it constructively. The body can handle some stress, whether it is physical or mental. Stress first physically manifests itself through the digestive and intestinal systems. This can result in ulcers, colitis, high blood pressure, diarrhea, and loss of appetite. If these initial conditions are not handled properly, then (read more…)
